We all know what the 4th of July means, but there’s something else that gets people excited about celebrating the birth of our nation’s independence. That’s fireworks. Hudson County will have an abundance of displays as well as festivals and music this weekend in celebration of America’s birthday. Here’s where you can go to get in on the patriotic fun:
Jersey City
For years now Jersey City’s July 4th celebration has been one of the largest in the region since being resurrected by Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop, and this coming Monday will be no different when it takes place again at Exchange Place. Where past celebrations have seen big name headliners like the Village People, Kool and the Gang, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, and Akon, this year’s July 4th Celebration includes headliner Flo Rida along with Shaquille O’Neal aka DJ Diesel and Funk Flex.
The fireworks, provided by Grucci, will take place following the three performances when they are launched from two barges located in the middle of the Hudson River. Spectators can watch the fireworks show along the Hudson River Walkway, from the north field at Liberty State Park, and most overlook areas in The Heights.
Also, a part of the celebration is the 4th of July Fireworks Food Festival from noon to 10 p.m. at the Exchange Place PATH Station, 68 Christopher Columbus Dr., Jersey City. The event is free to attend and will include food and drinks, shopping, and music. The food ends at 9:30 p.m. when the fireworks begin.
