Transfer gossip: Man Utd enter race for freebie as Ten Hag looks to ‘stretch budget’ to six signings – Football365

Man Utd have entered the race to sign a Premier League player on a free transfer, while Arsenal are willing to pay £190k a week to their top target…

BUDGET STRETCHING
Man Utd have joined the battle to sign Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, according to reports.

The Denmark international returned to the Premier League this season after Serie A regulations prevented him playing for Inter Milan with the defibrillator he had fitted after collapsing at Euro 2020. And the 30-year-old has been in great form for the Bees, getting four assists and a goal in ten starts in the second half of the campaign.

Those performances have alerted a number of top clubs with the Daily Mirror claiming that Man Utd are now seriously considering a move for Eriksen. It is understood that Ten Hag is looking ‘to make his budget stretch as far as possible as he plots to bring in six new signings this summer’.

Ten Hag, who allowed Eriksen to train with his Ajax squad to aid his recovery earlier in the season, has been ‘hugely impressed by the Dane’s desire – and his performances under Thomas Frank have strengthened his belief that Eriksen can help him rebuild at Old Trafford’.

Tottenham and Everton are the other two clubs with serious interest in the midfielder with Spurs the only club out of the trio which can offer him Champions League football.

BIG INCREASE FOR JESUS
Gabriel Jesus is set for a big wage increase if he swaps Man City for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The 25-year-old has contributed 13 goals and nine assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens with the Brazilian in particularly good form towards the end of the campaign. And the Gunners have been impressed by what they’ve seen with widespread reports confirming their interest in Jesus.

The potential transfer was thrown into doubt when Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the Premier League season but it now seems they could still get a deal over the line this summer.

The Sun claims Arsenal are ‘ready to offer Jesus nearly £200,000-a-week to try and tempt him to join’ with Man City planning ‘to speak to his representatives over the next few days’. The Gunners ‘have already held one round of talks with his agent Marcelo Pettinati’ with The Sun adding that, despite interest from teams in Italy and Spain, Arsenal ‘are understood to be offering better terms, worth a basic £190,000-a-week plus bonuses’.

It would be a big increase for the Brazilian, who currently on £110k a week at Man City, with Arsenal also potentially benefitting from his ‘successful relationship with Mikel Arteta’. The Citizens will still demand £50m for Jesus even though he only has one year remaining on his current contract.
